Bird-Kultgen Donates Free Mammograms

This October, we partnered with Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We wanted to provide awareness of the importance of breast health and do something that could help women in our community. Working together, we discovered the greatest need in our community was mammograms for women without insurance, especially right now. On October 14th, we hosted a mammogram sign-up day at Bird-Kultgen Ford. Michelle Wilson, Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Breast Center Manager, was on-site to educate consumers and assist in scheduling mammograms. more “Despite this Coronavirus season, scheduling and getting a screening mammogram is effortless and so very important,” Wilson said. Our goal was to provide 50 free mammograms by donating $200 from every SUV purchased and $5 from every oil change in October towards the effort. However, we provided 72 women in need with mammograms and several women with the necessary follow-up screenings due to the overwhelming demand. “We were inspired to be able to assist women who need our help while bolstering awareness that we cannot skip annual mammograms,” said Claire Kultgen McDonald, Vice President at Bird-Kultgen Ford. We encourage all women to get a yearly mammogram and to educate themselves on proper breast health. Visit our Breast Cancer Awareness page to learn more about proper breast health and the importance of yearly mammograms. If you need a donated mammogram, please call 254-202-4220 ( Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest can provide information on assistance).

Bird-Kultgen surprised, Kelly Oliver at work and handed him the keys of the Mustang. Bird-Kultgen Ford, has been working with Shepherd’s Heart for the past couple of years but this year has been especially difficult for the non-profit. “This year with COVID-19, Shepherd’s Heart was in a greater need due to the overwhelming amount of unemployment and families struggling in Waco.” said Rebeeca Cantu, Marketing Manager for Bird-Kultgen. Shepherd's Heart serves over 29,000 local families through both the Food Pantry and provided services, and now during the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for food has increased and put a huge burden on the non-profit. Bird-Kultgen Blood Drive

This Wednesday, Bird-Kultgen Ford partnered with Carter BloodCare to sponsor a mobile blood drive in front of the dealership. Blood Drive coordinator, Mike McCoy said, "When Carter BloodCare put a call out for help to Central Texas businesses…Bird-Kultgen Ford immediately stepped up to host a blood drive during these difficult times. 27 lives were saved because of their efforts. I want to give a huge Thank you to Becky and Bird-Kultgen Ford." more With our nation being in the midst of a global pandemic, this act of service comes at just the right time for the Waco community. During these times, many blood drives have been canceled and people have been unable to give blood because of the concerns of being out in public, which is what has led to the shortage. Claire Kultgen, Vice president of Bird Kultgen Ford, said ”We were happy to help out with the need of blood donations in Waco”. Giving blood is simple and takes little to no time at all. Around 60% of the American population is eligible to donate blood, but only 5% end up doing so. The process lasts about 20 minutes and collects a whole pint of blood, which has the potential to save up to three lives. Blood and platelets cannot be manufactured, so it’s critical that individuals consider donating. Rebecca Cantu, the primary blood drive coordinator for Bird-Kultgen Ford, expressed the importance and urgency of donating blood in times like this. “We were happy to support Carter Blood Care by hosting a Blood Drive. The need for blood donation is greater than ever before, and we wanted to do our part to help. Unfortunately, less than 4% of our community donates, which leaves Carter continually struggling to keep up with demand. If you are eligible to donate, we encourage you to help.” Carter Bloodcare is offering COVID-19 antibody tests to donors. The test is an indicator of someone’s exposure to coronavirus, but is not an indicator of immunity to COVID-19. To donate, contact Carter Bloodcare by visiting https://www.carterbloodcare.org, or call 1-800-DONATE-4.
