This Wednesday, Bird-Kultgen Ford partnered with Carter BloodCare to sponsor a mobile blood drive in front of the dealership. Blood Drive coordinator, Mike McCoy said, “When Carter BloodCare put a call out for help to Central Texas businesses…Bird-Kultgen Ford immediately stepped up to host a blood drive during these difficult times. 27 lives were saved because of their efforts. I want to give a huge Thank you to Becky and Bird-Kultgen Ford.”

With our nation being in the midst of a global pandemic, this act of service comes at just the right time for the Waco community. During these times, many blood drives have been canceled and people have been unable to give blood because of the concerns of being out in public, which is what has led to the shortage. Claire Kultgen, Vice president of Bird Kultgen Ford, said ”We were happy to help out with the need of blood donations in Waco”.

Giving blood is simple and takes little to no time at all. Around 60% of the American population is eligible to donate blood, but only 5% end up doing so. The process lasts about 20 minutes and collects a whole pint of blood, which has the potential to save up to three lives. Blood and platelets cannot be manufactured, so it’s critical that individuals consider donating.

Rebecca Cantu, the primary blood drive coordinator for Bird-Kultgen Ford, expressed the importance and urgency of donating blood in times like this. “We were happy to support Carter Blood Care by hosting a Blood Drive. The need for blood donation is greater than ever before, and we wanted to do our part to help. Unfortunately, less than 4% of our community donates, which leaves Carter continually struggling to keep up with demand. If you are eligible to donate, we encourage you to help.”

Carter Bloodcare is offering COVID-19 antibody tests to donors. The test is an indicator of someone’s exposure to coronavirus, but is not an indicator of immunity to COVID-19.
